30th Anniversary of the first trip to Macy's

20 points
In middle school, (ok, damnit, JUNIOR HIGH SCHOOL) our band director quit the profession. For 10 points, What was (is) his name; and 10 more points, What was (is) his NEW job title?

Correct. Class of '77, I think. Now I need to think of another question.

This is just a guess, but since he did a lot of other artistic stuff, Keith Burton?

Here's one. There were three 3 stars which read Pride, Perfection, and Professionalism over the podium in the old band room. (I created a reasonable facsimile on the masthead here) Who designed/painted those plywood stars? If I remember right, he also worked on our portable field podium.

Keith His mother was the old lady that tookcare of all the uniform issues for the band and traveled every where with us. I understood that she even did it for years after we all were gone. I wonderful what ever happened to her?

New question - 20 pts. What was the name of the DCI corps with the unusual production-type show - dancing, costume changes, and VERY different uniforms?

Extra points (10) if you can name where they were from, or what the message said when they flashed their trenchcoats when they came off the line.

The Bridgeman I think

Since nobody else has taken the ball to ask a new question, I will ask one. What was the "Off The Line" song for 1978 football season (hint - this was while we were preparing for the Macy's trip)?

Ok, I heard a Barry Manilow song this morning on the radio.... which song of his did we play? I remember playing it at basketball games (therefore it might had been just the stage band and not the whole band).

Speaking of spinoff groups like the stage band, what was the name of the small Dixieland Band a few of us played in? I know for sure Charlie Shaffer was the drummer. I remember John Simpson played trombone, and Lurch Butwig Butch Lurwig was piano. This isn't a test question, because I don't know the answer myself...

South of Dixie
The group performed more than the stage band remember. We even got paid for performances. Mr. Wade let us take his van and drive to a performance out of town. It was cold and raining the roads were small and the van was huge back them.....remember?

Last I heard, Mrs. Burton was still doing uniforms for the band, although I don't think she travels much anymore. Check with Gunter - she has an offspring in the band.

The number 7 (in miles) comes to mind. I don't remember any drop outs. I recall spending much rehearsal time building our endurance.

You guys have great memories! :-)

Next Question --
How long (in MILES, Chris!) :-) was the Mardi Gras parade (1978) that led to the Macy's invite? And, (extra credit) How many band, color gaurd, and SSG's dropped out during the parade?
