Hey Scott, I think we have another spammer. I have a friend request from Jen Thomas?? And she has a message about making money from her computer, or something like that.

Yes, I'm in Wisconsin! I told my family I'm in the Federal Witness Protection Program.

It's good to see some old names (and faces) from high school. That seems like a lifetime ago.

It was sad to read of Lisa Bowlin's passing. I remember her well -- very sweet-natured and soft-spoken.

I was showing this site to my wife the other night. Told her about riding around with you in that huge old battleship-sized Ninety-Eight after band practice. She just rolled her eyes and shook her head.

Hey Scott.
I'm doing fine, for an old man! :-p

I'm so glad for this web site. I've been wondering what all you folks have been up to these many years later...

Chris - lol at the comment you left re. the Mustang with the locked glove box. We used to have a Trans Am (or two) where you could take the keys out of the ignition while the car was running. Somebody told me one time about riding in such a car, and in their infinite wisdom they pulled the keys out and gave them to a fussy baby-occupant of the vehicle as they drove down the road. Worked like a charm until the little monkey tossed the keys out the open window...

Hi again! I would be so grateful if you would post it for me. I'm currently in nursing school and my time is ...well, I have no time! lol I know that Lisa's family would be touched if they knew that she was being remembered. I appreciate all that you're doing with this website Scott, I know it must be time consuming. Thanks again for your help! Let me know if you need anything...if I can help, I will! Take Care~ Gail :o)

Hey Scott! I wasn't sure what the protocol was (for the "In Memory of" page...), you are probably already aware of this but Lisa Bowlin Abney passed away from an aneurysm(stroke) about 8 or 9 years ago. I can't be sure of the exact time frame...we were living in Okinawa, Japan when I received the letter. She left behind a husband & 3 young children. Do you remember her? She was a clarinet player? Graduated in 1982. A really, really nice girl. One of the only people from HS that I kept in touch with throughout college & after I got married. We used to write to each other all of the time. She was a great person. I wasn't sure if you wanted this type of info. for the website...if you don't, then disregard! :o) Have a great week! Gail

Scott,
You're so funny! Of course I remember you! :o) I'm old, but I'm not THAT old. I didn't LOVE HS...But I did "love" being in the HS band! Those are my fondest memories from HS. I've read some of what other people have written about going to Homewood(or any HS for that matter), like it was the BEST TIME EVER...and it just wasn't for me. Those years came much later. BUT....being in the Homewood band was the greatest experience of my HS days...bar none. (did I spell that correctly)??? I want that same thing for my daughter. My Son (who is a Junior) isn't in the band, but he plays guitar. He did play the trumpet in the band, but the program sucked...so he quit. Sad...but the program quality makes all the difference in the world. Anyway...glad to hear from you...Hope things are great with you & yours! Take care! Gail :o)

Scott - speaking of Keith's Mustang... remember my Dad's VW Bug, it was one of those cars where the steering wheel locks when the key is removed (I think you are quite familiar with that technology). I remember one day driving down the road with Keith, and for some reason he told me to get something from the glove box. It was locked, and he said "no problem", and as we were driving down the road at full speed, he pulled the keys from the ignition and handed them to me! I freaked out. Apparently his starter system was "custom" and there was no ill effect from removing the key while driving. Not only did the steering wheel not lock up, the engine kept running, too. I think I lost a few heart beats at that time.

Hey Scott,
Just read your note;
Do you have any idea where I might find Keith Collins? I remember your folks lived near his in West Homewood. I haven't seen or spoken to him in 25 years and haven't a clue where to look. Just wondered if you had any ideas.

Last time I saw Keith Collins was summer of 1993 at the Taco Bell on Rocky Ridge Road. He was doing lawn maintenance type work and I later heard he got married. He did live/grow up in West Homewood (Hardwick Ln, I think) and during High School he got his dad's sweet 1966 (?) 3 spd red mustang.

How do we forget anyone that was in band together? Yes I do and glad to have found the site. Keith Cullen told me about it. Are we going to all try to get together sometime soon? We might need to, after all it's been 30 years, oops we are getting old. I am not going balled, I am gaining face!

I would have liked to have seen a video of the band on top of the WTC - from what Harold said, the sousaphones had a time with the wind and all.

I never saw the video of the performance on the top of the World Trade Towers, though Pat Morrow expected a video... shot from a helicopter. If such a video ever made it back to Birmingham in the first place, I would expect either Pat Morrow or Chris Herren to know any info that there is to be had.

Chris was Drum Major the year we went back and did the show up in the air... I think his mother was also president of the Band Boosters that year.

Oh... Mrs. Burton is still doing the band uniforms (yes, after all of these years)! Maybe she might know something...

I don't know what software Keith will use. My Sony laptop had something built-in that copied the DVD to video files, and it did it by the "chapters" on the DVD. Those DVD's that my Mom made might actually have chapters about 10 minutes each. Please pass this info to Keith.

I almost uploaded the original clips to YouTube, but when I got to the copyright warning, I decided to just put them on my personal site at my ISP. But if I were going to post the whole parade, I think I would go ahead and try the YouTube idea.

He wasn't in the band or anything, but I saw this morning where "Cousin Cliff" died. I just wondered how many of us used to watch his show back when we were rug rats.

Yeah. My paternal Grandmother passed just a few months shy of her 100th birthday. Considering the short lifespan of much of my family it was especially noteworthy. I cling to her story to ease my concerns. I'm getting ever closer to the age of my parent's passing.
